Description

An exquisite example of classical antique beauty represents this rare variant of the so-called "kneeling Venus". Since ancient times, this elegant representation of the goddess, which originally comes from the Hellenistic period, was extremely popular and different versions were taken during excavations at the light.
During excavations in the vicinity of Salone in the second half of the 18th century, it was discovered the present version, which was acquired by the sculpture collection of the Vatican. A century later, the Papal collection formed the basis for the newly created Museum "Pio Clémentino". As part of the Vatican museums it houses up to today the ancient works of art.
Very nice, heavy cast bronze with deep green, smooth patina.
